The ninth Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program Vocal Competition is a national competition that has been created to recognize and encourage promising young operatic talent. Previous winners have been hired to perform in southern Oregon in symphony concerts and in Brava! Opera's operas. Only singers aged 20 to 35 as of December, 2019 are allowed to enter the competition.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
The panel of judges will select the three winners who will be notified immediately following the competition. Competition Awards will be given after each winner completes a W-9.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The competition is limited to U. S. citizens and those with green cards. Proof of citizenship and/or green card is required. Driver’s Licenses are NOT proof of citizenship or residency. Please provide copy of birth certificate or passport.
Contestants must submit all data online at www.yaptracker.com:

Completed competition application form including signed “Statement of Understanding from Artist” form and acknowledgment of having read the rules prior to submitting the request to participate in the competition.

Two contrasting arias as videos uploaded (or links) at www.yaptracker.com

Required non-refundable entry fee of $35.00 paid by credit card or check included with application

Copy of legal proof of age (copy of birth certificate or passport)

Headshot and a complete résumé listing the roles you have performed, companies, conductors and stage directors you have performed with, vocal coaches and voice teachers (current and past) and any young artist programs in which you have participated.

Name, positions and contact information of at least two references in the field of opera

COMPETITION PROCESS

Singers will complete the online application on www.yaptracker.com and upload two arias of contrasting styles with one in English along with résumé, head shot and proof of citizenship.

Based on the application, singers will be selected to audition at the San Francisco Competition in the semi-final round. Singers will be notified of their selection and audition time by September 27, 2019.

Each singer must provide a list of at least five arias in three languages (at least one in English) on the application form.

Singers will come prepared to sing all five arias. The singer will choose the first aria to sing in the semi-final round. Please list that aria.

After the semi-final round is completed and after a short break, the selected finalist singers will sing two arias chosen by the judges in the final round. (The Semi-final round is scheduled to start at 11:30am on Sunday, October 27, 2019. The Final round will be held 30 minutes after the semi-final round concludes.)

An accompanist is provided for all the auditions, but you may bring your own pianist.

The final round of the competition is open to the public and will be held in the Salon at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Please check in 30 minutes prior to your audition time. Warm up rooms will be available.

By applying to enter the competition, each singer acknowledges full acceptance of the rules and the results of the competition. You will be required to sign a statement acknowledging your understanding of the rules.

STATEMENT OF UNDERSTANDING BY THE ARTIST
For the Brava! Opera Theater and James M. Collier Young Artist Program Vocal Competition: I have read and understood the rules for the competition. I understand that if I fail to adhere to the rules and regulations for the competition, I will be disqualified and there will be no recourse in being reconsidered. I have provided all necessary documentation about my citizenship or green card status and I have provided accurate information on my résumé. It is clearly understood that no one else may sign this form on my behalf. If I do not adhere to all of these requirements, it will automatically disqualify me from the competition and no refund of the application fee shall be made. I also understand that my audition will be filmed for the use of the judges in determining the winners.
